Thanks Jose for comment. Can you confirm which window is previously running in Dell Inspiron? Because XP cannot be installed over some higher window like 8 and 8.1…Last time I tried it, it got to same point and when it tried to show list of drives it gave me error. Because the current window was 8.1 and I was trying to install XP. So XP didn’t detect window 8/8.1 in C and threw error.
I think you should first use it in virtualbox 🙂
I understand it. Actually xp cannot be installed over windows 8.
Because XP cannot detect Windows 8 drives.
Solution which I suggest is to keep using windows 8 Because it is best, stable and high performance operating system. XP can be installed on Virtualbox. Then you can play old games inside Virtualbox or VMWare player.

The slow copy was due to another parameter I had changed in the BIOS, my bad.
Just to let others also know, mobo SATA settings also need to be changed to AHCI instead of IDE, in case you have. I was getting intermittent hangs and BSoD because of this.
So this is what has been done so far:
1) Downloaded XP Pro 64 SP1 from this site.
2) Using nLite:
a) Slipstreamed SP2 using nLite
b) Upgraded SATA Drivers to latest Intel 11.0.0.1032 (for Win XP Pro 64)
c) Upgraded Graphics Drivers to latest Intel HD Graphics 6.14.10.5394 (for Win XP Pro 64)
Created an ISO – ~610MB.
3) Using WinToFlash, created a bootable Windows XP Pro x64 Installer USB.
4) WinToFlash is a little peculiar. Do follow these steps closely:
a) Boot the new PC with the Win XP Pro x64 USB.
b) There are multiple boot options. By default the selected boot option is (2), DON’T use that. Use boot option (1), which will extract and copy all OS files to the SATA HDD.
c) By default, again, the USB drive itself (D:) is selected for install. Hit escape until you see the C: drive partition, delete C: partition if possible just to be sure, then select that again for installation. The installation goes smoothly from here, where D: contents are extracted to C:.
d) When the PC boots again the second time, choose option (2), which sets up the PC. Do not remove USB yet.
e) Once this is done, when the PC boots the third time, you can remove the USB and the PC should boot Win XP Pro x64 from the SATA HDD.The last time I booted my OS, it went on fine and I was able to login to XP. But I discovered that the graphics driver is old and may not be able to support the HDMI on my mobo. So this time, I have upgraded the graphics driver and am going through the whole process again! If everything goes fine, I need to:
1) customise the Win XP Pro x64 installer a lot, again through the nice nLite program
2) Install it on 64GB SSD – not sure if I will really do this, as Win XP cannot differentiate between a SSD and HDD (Win 7 and 8 can), and if by mistake somebody runs a defrag on my SSD, it’ll be screwed!

Fatima is wrong! On Core i7 you can install Windows 15 not 8.1 😉 Actually you can have problems. I “doubt” if the XP include driver for your CPU and searching manually for a compatible driver…. 🙁 Also I understand the image does not include SATA drivers. I wouldn’t play with it. Go for 8.1 or if you dislike it (like me) I suggest any Win7 x64. If you like XP find an older machine on eBay with Intel Core 2 Duo and install this:

I tried the Black Edition but dislike it. The one from the link I installed along Win7 as a spare system and it’s flying on my Oldie (CPU upgraded to T9300).To give fresh look to XP try Stardock or WindowsBlinds.
Good luck 🙂 - #159 written by AMAL SAJU 11 years ago

Good day, I was successful at loading XP on SATA platformed systems. Both are quad core. My only hitch was a modification I had to make to boot the cd at first as the system did not want to load the blue ray drivers. I think it’s no big deal when loading from the USB or even a sd. It’s a mater of formatting with proper boot configuration. Thank you Fatima Afridi for your hard work. Keep it up. Your up loads are a life saver in many cases as some software are a challenge to locate where I am.Masalam—

This version of XP in particular is 64-bit, but the Pentium 3 only supports 32-bit operating systems. If you want to install XP on the Pentium 3, obtain the 32-bit version of Windows XP. You can download it here: https://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/windows-xp-sp3-6689179/
