I think you used Microsoft USB DVD tool for installation of Linux.
Note that Linux should be installed using Universal USB Installer.http://getintopc.com/softwares/utilities/universal-usb-installer-free-download/

The main operating system will be always Windows 7 because you installed the ubuntu in virtualbox.
I would not recommend Ubuntu as your main operating system because you are not familiar with it. You can read online tutorials and documentations to learn it. Once you are familiar then you can install it as main operating system.

Hi Paulo and Fatima, is there someplace one can go to get directions to make a “bootable Pen”, I am assuming that your talking about suing a USB stick. I have a 64gb that I think would work for this.
I am upgrading one of my computers with a new MB/Processor/Memory and have Windows XP that needs to be upgraded and was thinking about installing Linux vs Windows 7 (Don’t want 8.1) I must be able to run some windows based programs though. Any help or directions would be GREAT!

This needs a little bit of self study from you. I will provide you some useful links that can help you. Windows and Linux are operating systems and Ubuntu is one of distributions of Linux there are many different ones.
https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windowshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Microsoft_Windows
Linux: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux
I think these links will be very helpful. I also provide you with the links to Windows and Linux forums I think they will be very helpful too. You can ask any question there even if you are a complete beginner. Usually people in the forums are very friendly and ready to help you.
Windows Central: http://forums.windowscentral.com/?utm_medium=navbar&utm_campaign=navigation&utm_source=wc
Linux: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-forums-50/
http://www.linuxforums.org/Oh and if you are going to deciding on a which operating system to choose then know this. There are many discussions about which operating system is better Windows or Linux. Some people wont admit any other op-systems than Windows and others are siding on Linux which is very similar to mac. I myself love Windows 7, cause I am used to it and it is very simple to use. Only thing is that if you want it you have to buy it for a lot of money. Right now I have Windows 10 which sucks by way. Wont recommend it at all. I cant even find Windows 7 on Microsoft windows store anymore. I just think I will go over to Linux side for good. Too many problems with Windows 10 and I am a IT student. Linux can be difficult to understand, but I say this again try those forums. They will help you so much. I use them a lot when I need help with homework 😀 You can always find more information by using Google and write on search bar Windows or Linux or Ubuntu.

If you really want to learn Linux, try Gentoo Linux at https://www.gentoo.org. You can download and compile everything from the beginning. There is a Handbook for different architectures and they have many forums for helping you. You need a lot of self study and it will take longer before your Linux runs, but you will know your system very well.
Go to techmint.tradepub and download Introduction to Linux by Machtelt Garrels. This is very well written with very good detail.
